I've always loved UltraEdit, but I haven't done nearly as thorough an investigation as it appears you have. UltraEdit is a little expensive for what it does, but it's nice to have a problem that does things in a simple and effective manner.

Thank you for writing this review Oliver.

Lee - why don't you try to sound accusatory here, it would give your comment its own value.

I'm sure the problem is related to the fact that various unzipping tools work differently. Some have "intelligent" functionality that tries to extract information as needed, others don't have that kind of functionality or just don't recognize the same files as "needed". The point is that when I create an installation in a zip file, I should consider this and simply add all important files into the compressed setup itself - that way, there's no room for mistakes regardless of the zip tool a customer uses.

In short, it's just the kind of small problem I don't expect from a version 11 of a software package. A company that listens to its users should have fixed such small issues years ago, and/or should have the experience to avoid them in the first place. Actually I should have a look if they still use the same packaging system - when I published this post nearly a year ago, I mailed them the link, so it might be interesting to see whether they bothered to make a change.

Yesterday I downloaded UE for the first time in years. I never read manuals or instructions, but I did see the warning not to run the setup exe from the zip file. Looks llike it's you who "did not work correctly."
