And again, there's more information in James's new post. Apparently the TabletPC problem with the flickering TIP is now fixed already and the next release will have that fix.

Marc, thanks for clarifying things. I agree about commending Copernic for listening... I'll just wait and see about the "making something happen" part. At the moment, I get the impression there are a few organisational issues on their side. Giving out a beta was a nice idea, but you have to listen to users at that moment and fix problems before calling it final. And every developer will tell you that between prerelease and final version is not the right place to stick in new features.

On the positive side, I do get the feeling they want to make things work maybe a little differently from their other products, where there was never any active community or any open discussion, as far as I can remember.

I'll try the idea with Lookout. Problem is, desktop searching is really about the comfort of having to use just one tool to do the complete task, isn't it?

Oliver - I've heard from Martin Bouchard a couple of times today. Apparently he and David Burns each took matters into their own hands based on the posts James and I made (as well as other factors, I'm sure). So they now apparently have two Tablets in house. I also received a notice from their VP of Technology that they believe they have isolated the cause of the flickering TIP and should have a fix ready for testing soon.

No software is perfect (as I know you know). When a company steps up to the plate as Copernic has in the past couple of days, they should be commended for understanding the importance of listening to their customers and making something happen. I agree with the issues related to offline IMAP folders - it's been a huge issue for me too and not just with CDS. x1/Yahoo and MSN Toolbar Suite also have big-time problems with IMAP.

The best solution I've found for now is to use Lookout in Outlook to search my IMAP mail and another tool (currently MSN) to search the file system. It's a kludge and I hate having to have two indexing engines running but it works... for now. Sooner or later someone will get this right and that will be the tool I use.

And the story goes on, with this post by Marc Orchant.
And there's even newer information: David Burns (Copernic CEO, apparently) has commented on James's post today, saying they got the message and they're going to look into TabletPC support ASAP. Good news again!
