With respect to your trouble with categories, this is a known problem in WP 1.5 Strayhorn. The only fix I know of right now is <a href="http://www.ioerror.us/2005/02/27/wordpress-1-5-ellington/" rel="nofollow">WordPress 1.5 Ellington</a>.
